Sin Shall Have No More Dominion Over You
The following sermon is designed to help Christians who have a habitual sin they are trying to overcome. Satan will try to tell them, "You cannot get victory over this sin< it is too powerful to defeat" However, Satan is a LIAR!
John 8:44. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Rom. 6: 1-14. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died un unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. to sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. to sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
There is a lot of good stuff here, but the one that stands out to me, is verse 14. God says, now that you are saved, SIN SHALL HAVE NO DOMINION OVER YOU! The devil says no, that is your besetting sin. It will ALWAYS have dominion over you. But, God say's It SHALL NOT HAVE DOMINION OVER YOU!
As long as you choose to believe Satan instead of God, you will never get Victory over that sin. But if you will believe God, and realize its up to you to whom ye yield, you can decide when that temptation comes, not to yield, knowing that sin no longer has dominion over you.
This verse led to my salvation. You see, I was a child when someone tried to win me to Christ, however, I didn't understand what they were saying. Then they led me to say a prayer, but I don't even remember what I said. Afterwards, they told me I was saved. I believed them and for years thought I was saved. It was later in life when I couldn't get victory in my life, that the Holy Spirit reminded me of this verse. I said, “if sin no longer has dominion, why can't I get the victory.. the Holy Spirit led me to go back and think about that day I prayed as a child. I realized I didn't really understand that day, and therefore wasn't really saved. So, that night I made sure of my salvation, and have had peace about it ever since!
Did you know the Bible tells you to make sure?
II Corinthians 13:5. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.
II Peter 1:10. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:
so, if you have any doubt, or there is any possibility you have been given a false assurance, God's word COMMANDS you to make sure!
Simply pray and tell God you are not sure and want to make sure. Ask Him to save you if you arer not trully saved. tell Him you are trusting Christ's payment on the cross for your sin.
